The shadows she observed on the lawn prompted her to develop a technique, which does not, however, paint the chosen object on canvas. More like the object has been transformed into it's own representation with the canvas taking its interpretation from the artist. This works best for objects that are living as well as items that have a shelf life like people or fruits. The transient nature of her art style is apparent and what survives in Alexa Meade's works is a photographs. Trompe-l'oeil art is created by combining the two techniques of photographing and painting. It creates a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models within the surrounding space. They are able to engage with the environment she has created. The line that separates photography and painting is dissolved.
